So you are wondering if you should send holiday cards out to your clients at your business. Is it worth the time and money? Or will they upset someone? My advice is to save the holiday cards for your friends and family unless you know your clients very well on a personal level and you know their religious beliefs. No one will have a reason to get upset if you don’t send the holiday cards. Sending holiday cards is a nice thoughtful gesture to people who celebrate that particular holiday, but it can be offensive to people who don’t celebrate it. They may feel like you are try to force your holiday and the beliefs your holiday represent on them in the form of the holiday card you sent them, even if you don’t send the card in that spirit. Their anger toward the holiday card they receive from you may result with the client not wanting to deal with your business anymore. So you may lose clients, all over a holiday card that they thought was inappropriate, while other clients may love the card, and may be delighted to find out you celebrate the particular holiday too. If you still decide you want to send holiday cards to your clients that you don’t know very well on a personal level, try to find cards that don’t mention a particular holiday. One that says season’s greetings would be a more appropriate choice than one that says merry Christmas. Try writing something in the card that doesn’t have any association with religious holidays, such as “We hope to see you soon.”
On the other hand holiday cards could bring in extra business for you, if you send ones that don’t mention any certain religious holidays, and you include a coupon with a discount for you business’ services. It completely depends on how each client reacts to the holiday card, and there is no way to know what their reactions will be. Clients that haven’t come to your business for a while because of financial difficulties may decide they can afford to come in with a discount. Even if you don’t include a coupon for a discount with your card, an appropriate holiday card may still remind them to come to your business if they haven’t been there in awhile. In the world of business it is important to remember there is always going to be a risk to everything you decide to do, even when it comes to holiday cards.
