Hydrophobia kicks off Microsoft’s Game Feast on Xbox Live Arcade. Hydrophobia is set in 2051 with the world facing a shortage of water. You play as Kate, an engineer who gets trapped in the lower levels of a ship when terrorists take over the vessel. She must use her environment and engineering skill set to escape immediate danger and help her friends on the ship. Because Hydrophobia is a survival game it can be tough to stay alive very long, but to help here are some tips and hints for completing Hydrophobia without dying repeatedly.
HydrophobiaHints and Tips – General Tactics
The game plays as a first person shooter but is truly a survival-adventure game that plays from the first person perspective. Keep this in mind while playing because you rarely want to actually shoot at enemies. It is far more effective to shoot at the barrels, gas leaks, electrical panels and glass walls near enemies. Using these environmental hazards to take out enemies is far more effective because you have very limited ammo. While Hydrophobia is not really a stealth game being sneaky helps keep you alive. If you can keep from being seen you can quickly take out enemies without having to worry about them shooting you first. Use the cover mechanic and turn off your flashlight when you enter rooms with enemies. Watch their patrol pattern and pick them off when they have their backs turned.
HydrophobiaHints and Tips – Ammo Types
For most of Hydrophobia you only have Sonic ammo for your pistol. It is unlimited but takes a few seconds to charge and these bullets will not kill enemies directly. They will however cause explosions, break glass walls that hold water back, and even knock enemies down. So, use them carefully because it you miss a shot it will take a few seconds to charge up another bullet. As the game progresses you get Gell and Shock ammo that comes just a couple bullets at a time. Gell will kill enemies instantly when they explode, and shock will electrocute a small area. These work great for areas where there are groups of enemies or fewer hazards to utilize. Eventually, you will get Semi and Rapid fire bullets. Use these sparingly and aim for headshots because enemies can take a lot of body damage before going down and you will not have a lot of these bullets.
Hydrophobia Hints and Tips – Cameras
The CCTV camera system is easy to overlook in Hydrophobia but when used correctly can save a lot of headaches. When using the security camera system you can not only see what is going on in other rooms but also control any electrical consoles you can see. This means you can open doors to flood a room or turn off gas lines to open alternate paths. By utilizing the cameras you can take out a lot of enemies before even getting to new areas of Hydrophobia. Not having to face enemies head to head in tight condors because you’ve already taken them out makes things much easier.
