Bartimaeus sat by the roadside
Begging people because he was blind.
This humbled man was not limited by pride,
For he needed someone to be kind.
On the road of Jericho he sat.
Then he heard Jesus was passing by,
So Bartimaeus cried out from his mat,
And Jesus replied to his desperate cry.
“Jesus, David’s Son, have mercy on me!”
Many then told him to shut up his mouth,
But the blind man cried more desperately,
And Jesus heard what his cry was about.
“What do you want me to do for you?” Christ said.
“Lord, I just want to be able to see,”
So Jesus valued his faith, which wasn’t dead
And healed poor Bartimaeus completely.
Like that blind man, we are all in need.
Our hands are stretched, begging God for healing.
No one knows the unbearable pain we are feeling.
Only Jesus cares that we are rapidly bleeding.
