I used to have a hearing loss, I wore hearing aids for years. I was not born with this problem, it started after my children were born. I was very glad to have the hearing aids but it is not fun to not be able to hear properly.
I came to a point in my life when I needed to go back to work. I am an office worker which means usually answering the phone. Well, if I didn’t wear my hearing aid I could not hear what was being said and if I did wear one it would give off that horrible buzz and nobody could hear what was being said. Now they do make phones that compensate but how many business have them? And they do make portable devices to help but that means having to put it on when I answer the phone while the person on the other end was waiting for someone to say ‘Hello’. So, I thought that if I went to the vocation rehabilitation for the hearing impaired they might be able to help me get a job where my problem would be acceptable.
Of course in order for the rehabilitation people to help me we had to prove that I did have a hearing loss. They sent me to two doctors to have my hearing checked and they both agreed that an operation would improve my hearing. It was explained to me that sometime women who have had babies (which I had three) developed a problem with one of the little bones in their ears, it starts to thicken and so does not vibrate the way it needs to. If this bone was replaced with Teflon it could help me hear better.
Now, the lady at the rehabilitation center told me that they would help pay for the surgery but she had experienced that it didn’t help all that much and I probably would end up having to wear a hearing aid anyway. So that prompted me to pray for God to show this lady what He could do.
I had my surgery on the first ear and it was amazing, right after the surgery I could hear but some healing had to take place and a scab formed which caused me to not be able to hear at all for about a week.Once the scab came off the hearing was back. It was like a miracle to me.
The surgery on the other ear went well too. I had my hearing tested and now I am able to hear in the low ranges of normal without any hearing aid at all. God is so good. Between the rehabilitation people and my husband’s insurance it didn’t cost us anything, another miracle! Both operations together cost over $20,000.
