You will find Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi located at 5340 Grand Avenue in Gurnee, Illinois only minutes from I94. The location is just east of Gurnee Mills shopping center, across the street from Six Flags Amusement Park and about a 50 minutes drive North of Chicago and nearly the same distance South of Milwaukee.
If you are in the area and craving Japanese food, Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse is not a bad choice. I recently visited with friends who love this place and go there often and we had a wonderful evening and enjoyed all of our food. We shared a dinner for two and had a lot of food to eat and everything was tasty plus the tableside chef did a great job entertaining our party.
Prices are a little on the high side with our dinner costing us in the $40 range without drinks or tip. Located in a strip mall Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse does not make a great impression. Ichiban is a Benihana copycat restaurant and they do a decent job presenting and preparing your food at your table.
Ichiban Steakhouse has been in this location for years and it shows. It’s a bit run down and is in need of a renovation. It seems very clean but is a bit plain and very forgettable.
On the up side, this is a small home town local place and you aren’t likely to have to wait long for a table at Ichiban which makes this an even better choice as it’s common to have to wait more than an hour for a table at many restaurants in the area. Ichiban does very little advertising and being located off the road in a strip mall most tourists in the area would not realize it is even there.
While Iciban Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi is not a bad choice it’s also not a great one either. I would go back if someone I was with really wanted Japanes but Ichiban would not be my first choice. There are definitely more upscale choices for dining in the area. However, there are very few options in the area for Japanese. My overall score for Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi in Gurnee is a solid B-.
