Since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, there have been manned security vehicles blocking various entrances to the Metrotech office complex in Downtown Brooklyn. These manned GMC pick-up trucks have been idling day and night at that location to stop vehicles from getting near a division of the New York Stock Exchange, the Security Industry Automation Corporation, whose offices were located within Metrotech. On Friday, October 1, 2010, the Security Industry Automation Corporation will leave Metrotech and with it the trucks will leave as well.
The trucks blocked underground parking entrances at Jay Street, Duffield Street and at the intersection of Willoughby Street and Lawrence Street. With the departure of the trucks, the city can restore parking on Lawrence Street between Metrotech and Willoughby Street. Hopes are that opening the street will ease traffic and parking tension in Downtown Brooklyn
