Over the last few months, I have seen and heard about this race for Governor of Illinois and done my fair share of research on the three candidates. I have come to the conclusion that politics is pretty much an “I will say whatever I need to say to get into office” type deal. While there are very few genuine politicians, I believe Rich Whitney to be in that group. The three candidates running for Governor in Illinois are Pat Quinn (Democratic Party, current Governor, and served at Lt. Governor for Blagojevich), Bill Brady (Republican Party), and Rich Whitney (Green Party). After the last two (Blagojevich and Ryan) Governors Illinois had, the last thing we need is another scandal. Right now as it stands, I am supporting Rich Whitney as my choice of candidate for Governor of Illinois.
How Will Whitney’s Win Affect Me Personally?
Rich Whitney has stated multiple times he is both pro life and pro choice. How can this be you may wonder. Well, it’s pretty simple when you think about it. He believes that every child should be given the chance of life but also believes that the state should not interfere with a woman’s choices regarding her own body. This issue is very near to my heart. I am a mother of two. I am also a survivor of rape. If I had become pregnant as a result of that rape, I would have liked to have my options open. Luckily, I didn’t have to make that decision. To make abortion illegal is only going to cause more women to go elsewhere to doctors and clinics that may not be up to par. This could cause a slew of issues. Rich Whitney has the right focus regarding this issue.
Rich Whitney also supports the FMLA and family rights in general. This is a huge factoring issue for me, as I am a mother of two and plan on returning to the work force in the near future. He is for paid emergency leave to care for a sick child or parent, full benefits for domestic partners (which includes LGBT), and decent wages for part timer and summer jobs for teens. This would bring such a relief to our family, because both of my children are young and if one of them got ill, I would be the parent that had to take off. It would be nice to know I wouldn’t have to forfeit money for food just to take care of my sick babies.
Where Does Rich Whitney Sit In The Polls?
According to the Rasmussen Polls, Whitney is holding only 6 percent of the vote. He was quoted recently as saying “Such polling is plainly not legitimate and is apparently aimed at persuading voters to follow a favored candidate, not inform voters about their collective opinions.” In another poll, when Whitney was not listed as “other” as he was in the Rasmussen Polls, he was showing as having 11 percent of the vote. Current polls are showing Republican Bill Brady as the leader in the 2010 Governor race.
