IloMilo secretly released on Xbox Live Arcade this week following the November 7, 2010 launch on Windows Phone 7. Developed by Southend Interactive IloMilo is a three dimensional puzzle game. In each level gamers must reunite the characters Ilo and Milo who start on opposite sides of the board. Because of the spatial nature of the puzzles they get quite challenging for gamers use to two dimensional puzzles. To help keep frustration levels low here are some tips and hints for completing IloMilo efficiently.
IloMilo Tips – Exploring
Because there is no time limit for any of the puzzles in IloMilo it makes things a lot easier if you take your time and explore each level. Almost every puzzle has hidden collectibles on the sides of the board. Because all sides are playable be sure to hit the Y button and use the zoomed out view to check around each corner. Also check the top and bottom of each pathway. Always keep in mind that some areas will only be reachable by having the second character create a path.
IloMilo Tips – Scoring
The leaderboards in IloMilo are based on the number of moves it takes to complete each puzzle. Getting a good score is going to take playing each level a couple times. The first time on each board be sure to pick up everything on the level. Then take some time and figure out the quickest approach for the puzzle. After completing the level once replay it right away while it is still fresh in your mind and use the strategy you formed to finish in as few moves as possible. Go slowly so you are careful not to take any extra steps.
IloMilo Tips – Shuffle
The Shuffle minigame in IloMilo takes the two main characters and has you control them simultaneously. Any move you make is done by both Ilo and Milo as long as the path is open for them. When you first start playing Shuffle start by getting Ilo and Milo right next to each other. Then move the pair as a single large until that takes up two spots. As you get use to controlling both units at once begin to move them further apart. Scoring in Shuffle mode is based on the items you pick up by walking over them. Focus on picking up the items worth more than ten points each and consider any others you pass over to be extras. Your second goal should be to focus on staying alive. The longer you stay alive the more items you can pick up so carefully watch the board for the changes that are about happen. Keeping both characters safe to earn more points is better than going for a quick score.
