The United States has new reason to bring up old cold war fears. United States official’s cay that Russian Warheads have been moved to facilities on the NATO border which run counter to pledges set in 1991. Russia has kept its nuclear program much too private for the United States ‘ liking. The pledges made in 1991 however are not binding and therefore my not truly be a sign of degrading relations between the us and Russia .
“Russian Missiles Fuel U.S. ” worries by Adam Entous and Jonathan Weisman. The authors state ” Russia ‘s movement of the ground-based tactical weapons appeared to coincide with the deployment of U.S. and NATO missile-defense installations in countries bordering Russia . Moscow has long considered the U.S. missile defense buildup in Europe a challenge to Russian power, underlining deep-seated mistrust between U.S. and Russian armed forces despite improved relations between political leaders.” Published on November 30th 2010.
This suggests that there is in deed growing resentments between the us and Russian governments which may spark into a second cold war. Luckily a real nuclear war would most likely not be as bad as media predicts. Movies such as Mad Max and The Book of Eli may simulate a world where a nuclear war has destroyed the world, luckily however most of it will be unaffected by actual bombs, and radiation, while being a serious threat, is not as mutating and deadly as films like the Toxic Avenger or games like the Fallout Series would have you believe.
Another theory however is that these nuclear warheads are being made and shipped to combat the ever growing to match the tensions between the us and china’s newly booming economy.
In any case there is little we can do to stop, or even help detour another cold war, if there is one. Luckily there are not enough signs to conclude that one will be on its way yet. The last cold war got people in such a panic that a communist witch hunt ruined the lives of many respectable citizens. Even if there is a cold war, America would be best staying calm over this. There is no need to build a bomb shelter in the back yard, at least not yet.
