Karl Rove was thought to be the architect for the resurgence of the Republican Party, the go-to-guy when it came to getting elected and being seen as a force in the party. This has been proven a little false since Sarah Palin has decided to quit as Governor of Alaska and dedicate her time to attempting to shape the political landscape herself. Maybe she is infringing on Karl Rove’s turf?
“Karl Rove doesn’t think Sarah Palin has what it takes to be the nation’s next commander in chief.” “In an interview with London’s Daily Telegraph, the GOP strategist and former top adviser to George W. Bush say Palin lacks the “gravitas” to be president. Rove cited in particular Palin’s upcoming foray into reality TV, implying it’s not becoming of someone who wants to be in the White House.” “There are high standards that the American people have” for the presidency, Rove told the Telegraph.” “They require a certain level of gravitas. … They want to look at the candidate and say, ‘that candidate is doing things that [give] me confidence that they are up to the most demanding job in the world.'” “The ex-governor’s reality show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” doesn’t fit that bill, Rove said.” “With all due candor, appearing on your own reality show on the Discovery Channel — I am not certain how that fits in the American calculus of ‘That helps me see you in the Oval Office,'” Rove said.” “The strategist said the show’s trailer-in which Palin says she’d rather be in Alaska than in “some stuffy old political office”-is particularly damaging and could haunt a potential 2012 campaign.” (Bailey, Holly, 10/28/2010,Yahoo Upshot, Rove says Palin lacks ‘gravitas’ to be president, Retrieved from email@example.com).
Either way, there is something to be said for Mr. Rove calling out Ms. Palin for lack of “gravitas”. No one can be sure it is because he would like to be the one who chooses the next Republican Presidential Nominee or whether or not he really meant to call into question Palin’s qualifications. Maybe Karl is ready to get more TV time on MSNBC or something because if he continues to call out Palin, Fox may soon disown him. Think Rove has been speaking secretly to Mike Pence of Indiana about donning that crown or maybe the Tea Party will make the choice? It’s going to be quite interesting to find out in the days, weeks and months to come.
