I’m not new to La Mer, but I certainly buy it seldom due to the excessive price tags slapped on to all of their products. If you are new to La Mer, than make note that their cheaper skin care products are in the $60.00 range, which is very excessive for skin care products. La Mer however is no mediocre company, they are in fact my number one favorite company, and after using Creme De La Mer, I have to say, nothing else comes close to it, but at the same rate, Creme De La Mer is in the $1,300 range.
I was so lucky to nab that one for free awhile back.
Although I truly love my skin, and the routine I put it through, I noticed that my skin was still shiny, and even in winter months when I was not hot, I found I had to consistently powder my face just to tone down the shine.
While I have come across some really wonderful oil and shine educing tonics and serums, I noticed they would only work for so long, and then eventually not at all. While searching online for the best shine reducing serums and lotions, I kept coming across the same brand name time after time. La Mer. I did not want to go to the site though because I feared the price that would be involved in ‘this so called miracle tonic’.
After poking around though and realizing everything else I was coming across, I had already tried, I finally caved in and visited the La Mer website in search of The Oil Absorbing Tonic.
Surprisingly the price was not in the $400 range like I feared it would be. In fact, it was one of their lower priced products, coming in at $60.00.
I know that sounds pricey, but I was at my wits end, and it was a last resort. I just wanted the shine and oil to go away, once and for all, and I knew powdering my face on a consistent basis was not healthy for my pores, or skin.
The tonic itself comes in a standard screw cap plastic bottle, and contains 6.7 ounces of the tonic, which I knew would last me around a year, even with daily use.
Now the trick to this tonic is that you have to shake it before you apply it to a cotton ball and dab it on your face. I came across reviews on their site with people claiming it didn’t work, so I had to wonder if they followed directions. It stated to shake lightly, and then saturate a cotton ball, and dab on your face.
The tonic itself is a light green blue color, and when you mix it you can see this milky white serum blend in with the colored part of the tonic.
It’s interesting to say the least, like a weird little chemises project in a bottle.
The scent is as others described it, a semi obvious hint of alcohol, and a mild refreshing sort of warm amber is what I get from it.
I saturated a cotton ball, and used The Oil Absorbing Tonic as described, dabbing the cotton ball on to my skin. Naturally my skin was cleansed before doing this.
What amazed me abut the tonic was that immediately as it dried, I could see a difference. Usual alcohol based serums or tonics would just leave my skin super clean, dry, and even more shiny. Although The Oil Absorbing Tonic smells like alcohol, it does not leave behind the same harsh feeling on the skin.
What it was doing for me was removing dirt’s, oils, and miraculously leaving behind a stunning matte finish, without the drying sensation. By the time the tonic felt dry on the cotton ball, my skin was shine and oil free.
I was in heaven, in love, in skin bliss. Then naturally, I had to wonder…how long would this last? How long would my skin remain shine free?
I applied it in the morning underneath my makeup and moisturizer. This was around 8am. By 11am my face was still just as fresh as it was when I first applied the tonic. A lovely solid and toned matte finish, with no shine, and no oil.
I could not believe it. I did not have to touch up. My face was still fresh looking, and I loved it because I did not have to disturb my makeup to blot or powder.
By 2pm the results were still the same. I was amazed.
For me, La Mer The Oil Absorbing Tonic is now the only product I will use to keep shine away, it works all day long, and leaves me looking and feeling flawless. I cannot recommend this one enough. It was worth every single red cent I spent on it, and if oil and shine is a problem you have, just give this one a try.
