Thailand is an incredible place to visit and reside. The people of Thailand appear incredibly peaceful, and the great King of Thailand sets the example with his calm spirit and gracious manner. Visiting Thailand takes you into their world and shows you the difference between Thailand and so many other countries that are more stressful and a lot less desirable to live in. However, over the past few years, there have been different incidences that have shaken Thailand and the question remains is Thailand a land of peace or a potential land of war. There are several observations to consider!
1) The south of Thailand! The areas of Pattani and Yala especially, located in the southern part of Thailand, have been filled with unrest for a while now. The Muslims people of this region want to join the Muslim people from Malaysia and start their own country and because this has not been granted, they are doing everything possible to make this area all Muslim by destroying everything that isn’t. School teachers and students have been shot, government officials have been kidnapped and killed and ordinary people, driving through town, have been gunned down. This scene does not properly describe Thailand, but rather describes an area if Thailand that may not be the best area to visit. Phuket is very nice and is located in the south, but that area is not as far down and hasn’t seen any real problems like this. Is Thailand a land of peace or a potential land of war? This problem needs to be solved to make the answer to this question very obvious.
2) Bangkok! Within the past year and a half, the main airport in Bangkok has been closed down and one of the biggest malls in Thailand and Southeast Asia was burned down. Currently, there is peace in the city, and Bangkok is a great place to visit right now. However, there is talk of more protests and violence and this is not what Thailand is all about. In a matter of hours, Thailand can go from peace to war with a few people leading the way. Every political party has valid points and the Thai people are the most gracious people you will ever meet, but can be very aggressive if provoked.
What is the answer to the issues of this great country? The lives of many potential innocent victims are on the line if the problems are not solved and the government needs to work together with the people to come to a compromising resolve. The time to resolve the issues cannot be a factor when life is at stake and the economy of the country could potentially be destroyed. These are all things to consider as many eyes now are watching the country of Thailand!
