11-year Old Rottweiler Mia Survives Euthanasia
Mia, an 11-year old Rottweiler, owned by Matt Olivarez, had spinal problems and could hardly walk. It was time to put her to sleep. See this miracle video at the huffingtonpost.com. It is very hard and very emotional to decide to put a pet out of its misery, but how could the dog come back to life? Is it truly a miracle? What went wrong? Was the euthanasia dose to weak? Mia evidently has 9 lives. Mia was given two shots by a vet and owner Matt Olivarez watched his dog be put to sleep. He was given a blanket to wrap his dog in and took her home so he could bury her the next day. He put the body wrapped in the blanket into his garage. To his surprise, the next day when he opened the garage, he found Mia sitting in front of her food bowl alive.
What to do Next
Matt Olivarez is now faced with the tough decision what to do next. Does he try to go through putting Mia to sleep again and watch man’s best friend die again? What does he tell his kids? Is this some kind of miracle dog? What if he had taken her home and buried her alive unknowingly? What if he had her creamated alive unknowingly? It is very disturbing just thinking about it. Everyone knows the saying that cats have nine lives, but dogs? This is a heart wrenching situation to be in for Matt. Should he go through another euthanasia procedure? Would another miracle occur?
American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)
The AVMA has guidelines for helping owners through pet euthanasia. On their website www.avma.org, they help you through answering questions like “What should I do, how will I know when, what if the animal is healthy, how do I tell my family, will it be painless, how can I say goodbye, how can I face the loss, the stages of grief, remembering your pet, and should I get another pet?”
