Losing weight is one of the highest searched terms on the Internet and that is because most of us are always trying something new to lose weight. When I sat down and figured up all the times in my 61 years that I have lost 25 to 40 pounds, I realized I’ve lost over 500 pounds!
So if I can lose 500 pounds, then why am I still 50 pounds overweight? I finally have come to the conclusion that dieting, as a way of losing weight, is the wrong way to go about this. When people diet, they either go on some kind of crazy crash diet, shakes of some kind, or just counting calories. Do these types of things work? Yes, they do, but it’s only temporary if you don’t do this one thing that most of us have not been considering.
When losing weight you must realize that it’s not just a diet until the unwanted pounds are gone. It must be a way of life! Now, this is not true of crazy fad diets, like the cabbage soup diet, or days of endless shakes. I am talking about the way you want to live your life. It takes strength to continue the rest of your life, working toward this one goal. But in reality, it’s easier than becoming overweight again and starting a brand new diet from the top!
If you want to count calories, fat grams, or low carbohydrate grams, you must realize that once you are done losing weight, you are not through.
Once the weight is off you must go on maintenance. Of course you will be able to eat more foods than you did while losing weight, but you can never, ever, go back to eating the way you did before. If you do, then you will continue this yo-yo dieting for ever.
In my case I realized that portion control, eating healthy, and moderate exercise were something I could live with. I am losing weight now and intend to keep it off. Losing weight is not just to look good, it is so I can hopefully live a healthy long life.
