Jackass 3D review buzz is useless. No matter what Jackass 3D review scores are, the target audience is excited to see the stunts this weekend. Although the series has been off for years, and was thought to have lost its place in the zeitgeist, it has found inspiration in the way that many movie studios have. Like the studios, they believe they can get bigger than ever in a new dimension – even though that dimension has faced a backlash this year. According to reviews, however, the series has lost its inspiration in all three dimensions.
Johnny Knoxville and his pranksters last pushed the envelope in 2006, back when the show could still make everyone sick. However, the time in which people were shocked and disgusted by their antics may be over, as the culture is far more desensitized now. But Knoxville figured that by putting the gross stunts in 3-D, it would shock audiences all over again.
Thus far, the Jackass 3D review ratings suggest that viewers might be shocked out. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is right down the middle, with a 47 percent score and an average rating of five. The original film got pretty much the same scores, although Number Two actually won a fresh rating.
In its own way, the movie is trying to revolutionize 3-D like Avatar did, only by throwing port-o-potties and other gross things at viewers. Since the crew pushes the envelope in all forms, this may be their ideal next step. But since they exhausted all of the other forms years ago, critics suggest that the shock value could be fading.
Of course, negative comments about Jackass 3D mean nothing to those who are still fans. Critics state that this movie is still for them, as it gives them what they want and expect. But even 3-D might not make Knoxville and company as big, and as controversial, as they were back then.
Although the format has never been used in this fashion before, audiences have still been burned out by it this year. This may not even be the most violent 3-D movie this year, after the latest Piranha came out in late August. That film sent a chewed off human penis flying at audiences, which not even the Jackass crew has tried out yet.
Despite the mixed Jackass 3D review scores, the movie is still set to win the box office over fellow violent escapade Red. That could prove that both Knoxville’s crew, and the 3-D format, still has some juice and drawing power left in them. However, even they may have a hard time figuring out where to go from here.
