Jackie Evancho took America by storm following her first appearance on the NBC Talent Show America’s Got Talent. The tiny opera singer from Pittsburgh, PA, wowed the judges and had the audience standing on their feet after finishing “O mio babbino caro” by Giacomo Puccini. The performance won the ten year old a trip to Universal Studios in Orlando, Fl, for the most fan votes from a Youtube submission received by AGT.
The day following her performance saw the internet, radio talk shows and Main Street America debating on how such a big voice could emerge from such a little girl. Cries of lip sync were so loud that the following night on AGT, when the winners moving on to the next round were announced, Howie Mandel asked the pint sized opera singer if she could put the rumors to rest by impromptu singing a couple of notes.
Jackie began her singing career at eight years old after seeing a performance of Phantom of the Opera. After winning several local talent competitions, she turned to Youtube and became a young opera sensation on Youtube and around Pittsburgh. Evancho has preformed the National Anthem on the PBS Special, “Celebrate America”, and at several home games for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Jackie Evancho released her first album, “Prelude to a Dream”, on November 15, 2009 and the album is currently at # 121 on The Billboard 200 Chart. She will become the youngest female performer to appear at Carnegie Hall on December 2, when she makes her appearance in composer/ producer Tim Janis’s, American Christmas Carol Show.
As Evanco enters into the finals on AGT, Las Vegas are giving the odds for her to win at 5 to 1. This season’s competition has it’s share of strong singers including, Michael Grimm, Price Poppycock and Alice Tan Ridley. Can the little girl with the big voice win the $1,000,000? Watch NBC’s America’s Got Talent to find out.
