The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to beautiful San Diego and the will run into the San Diego Chargers offensive machine September 19, 2010. Jacksonville looked solid against AFC West team the Denver Broncos and now they play their second AFC West opponent in two weeks. As a defense, the Jacksonville Jaguars looked manageable in their first game but there is room for improvement.
Running Games for San Diego Chargers & Jacksonville Jaguars Will Take Center Stage in This Game
The running game for the San Diego Chargers looked non existent against the Kansas City Chiefs. It may have been a good run defense by the Kansas City Chiefs but they never got on track except for a few 15-20 yard break out runs. Ryan Mathews was used sparingly and Darren Sproles did not do well as the number one back.
Jacksonville Jaguars star running back Maurice Jones-Drew had an average day for him. He ran for 98 yards but never found the end zone. Jones-Drew carried the ball 23 times and was a steady performer all day against a decent run defense for the Denver Broncos. Look for Jones-Drew to carry the ball 25-28 times and the Jacksonville Jaguars will try to keep Phillip Rivers off the field. Running game edge goes to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Passing Attack for San Diego Chargers & Jacksonville Jaguars Will Focus on No Mistakes
Phillip Rivers will be out to prove the debacle in Kansas City was an aberration. Rivers and the San Diego Chargers passing attack was a mess in their first NFL game of the year. Was it the rain? Was it the missing guard Marcus McNeill? Or was it the absence of Vincent Jackson? Whatever the reason, the San Diego Chargers need to find the answer why they start every season in a funk.
To call the Jacksonville Jaguars passing attack and attack is a bit of a misnomer. The Jacksonville Jaguars offense is an offense that is designed to be an error free boring type of passing attack. David Gerrard is never going to make an NFL top 10 list or many highlight reels but that is not necessary. Gerrard knows how to move his Jacksonville Jaguars down the field and he knows how to defer to his power back, Maurice Jones-Drew. The edge on the passing attack goes to the San Diego Chargers despite their rough start in NFL Week One.
Jacksonville Jaguars vs San Diego Chargers -9
A nine point spread looks like a lot of points for a San Diego Chargers offense that struggled in their first game. This line will more than likely come down so keep an eye on it. Look for the San Diego Chargers to come into this game with a chip on their shoulder.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have their first win already and they will try to grind out this game on the ground to take home the win. They do have the best running offense but the San Diego Chargers offense will be in full song for this game. One worry about the San Diego Chargers is their knack for getting off to slow starts. Take the San Diego Chargers -9 to blow out the Jacksonville Jaguars in this Week Two NFL matchup.
