There are several questions out there surrounding the new regime of Mike Shanahan when it comes to the Washington Redskins. Many people are openly wondering whether a big personality can co-exist with a outspoken defensive coordinator like Jim Haslett. Haslett tends to let people know exactly what he thinks and is not afraid to go to the media from time to time. Mike Shanahan on the other hand has been known in his past as a bit of a control freak who does not like the idea of going to the media, he likes the idea of keeping things in house.
Jim Haslett has reportedly been working with defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth behind the scenes in order to make sure that Haynesworth stays focused on his job with the Washington Redskins and doesn’t get drawn in with a big back and forth with people in the media, as noted by ESPN. You can also expect a fierce run blocking scheme when it comes to Mike Shanahan. There are a number of people around the NFL who have even called the run blocking scheme under Shanahan as noted by KFFL News.
Alex Gibbs is known for teaching a cut blocking scheme that will end up taking your knees out. Calvin Pace of the New York Jets, for example, was once injured on a cut block designed by Gibbs. Shanahan has been known to defend the cut blocking style and plans to implement it during his tenure with the Washington Redskins. If there is a lockout and several players end up with serious knee injuries, you better believe that the insurance industry is going to be awfully busy paying out policies to football players who can’t work with their bum knees. Gibbs was hired by the Seattle Seahawks and Pete Carroll so that blocking style continues to spread.
