High school seniors, who are residents of Mountain View, are eligible to apply for one of four John Fetz-John Walsh Memorial Scholarships. The annual memorial scholarship honors the late Mountain View Fire Chiefs John Fetz and John Walsh who both dedicated more than 30 years to firefighting.
Of the four $750 scholarships available, three are reserved for high school seniors who are a Mountain View resident, have at least a gpa of 2.5, and plan on attending an accredited two or four year college or vocational program as a full-time student. Grades must be verified by a high school transcript. Those interested must complete an application which will list a variety of information including the student’s grades, community service, and financial need.
The fourth scholarship will be awarded to a student who is the dependent (son, daughter, or stepchild) of a Mountain View Firefighter who works full-time, is retired, or who has died. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2011. Click here to download an application. All applicants will receive a letter stating notifying them if they were chosen to receive an award. The four Mountain View students who are chosen to receive a scholarship will be honored in June 2011 at a reception hosted by the Mountain View Firefighters Association.
