These will be updated if the New Orleans Saints lose to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football
Week 2 NFL Power Rankings #10: Miami Dolphins (2-0)
The Dolphins debuted at #10. The Miami Dolphins couldn’t have set themselves up for a better season after going 2-0 with road victories in Buffalo and Minnesota. The Dolphins have looked sharp defensively and have a good running game, similar to the New York Jets. Chad Henne has done enough for the Dolphins to win.
The Dolphins biggest challenge could come in week 3 in their home opener against the Jets. The Dolphins swept the Jets in 2009, so the Jets should be eager to extract revenge on Sunday Night Football.
Week 2 NFL Power Rankings #09: Cincinnati Bengals (1-1)
The Cincinnati Bengals reenter the power rankings at #9 after defeating AFC North favorite Baltimore Ravens 15-10. The Bengals appear like the same team that won 10 games in 2009: A good rushing attack with a veteran quarterback, good rushing defense, and one of the NFL’s best cornerback tandems.
The Cincinnati Bengals will travel to Carolina to take on the 0-2 Panthers in week 3.
Week 2 NFL Power Rankings #08: Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0)
The Pittsburgh Steelers are the highest entrant at #8 after dominating the Tennessee Titans 19-11. The Steelers have only given up 20 points in their first 2 games, and the one touchdown they surrendered was during garbage time. The Steelers defense has performed historically, and it’s amazing to think that they could be 4-0 before Big Ben returns.
The Steelers will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the 2-0 Buccaneers in week 3.
Week 2 NFL Power Rankings #07: San Diego Chargers (1-1)
The San Diego Chargers remain at #7 after defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 38-13. The Chargers have talent and an efficient and effective passing game under Phillip Rivers. The Chargers rushing game hasn’t lost much with rookie Ryan Mathews, and the defense has played well. The biggest concern with the Chargers is consistency and coaching, aspects that have plagued the Chargers for years.
The Chargers have a difficult match-up at Seattle against the Seahawks in week 3.
Week 2 NFL Power Rankings #06: Baltimore Ravens (1-1)
The Baltimore Ravens tumble 2 places to #6 after continuing their woes against the Cincinnati Bengals, 15-10. Joe Flacco tossed 4 interceptions and could be the Achilles heel for a team who’s added an abundance of firepower on offense to their stout defense. Also, you have to wonder how their secondary will hold up against some spread offenses.
The Ravens home opener is against the Cleveland Browns in week 3.
Week 2 NFL Power Rankings #05: New England Patriots (1-1)
After looking like they had returned to their roots, the Patriots fall 2 places to #5 after getting harassed by the New York Jets, 28-14. The Patriots were shutdown offensively in the 2nd half and Mark Sanchez had a career games on a young Patriots defense that appears like it’ll be inconsistent throughout the season.
The Patriots will host the Buffalo Bills in week 3.
Week 2 NFL Power Rankings #04: Indianapolis Colts (2-0)
The Indianapolis Colts go up from #6 to #4 after defeating the New York Giants 38-14. Some folks were forecasting that the Colts were too old and were doomed for a decline. Well, that didn’t appear to be the case in Indianapolis. The Colts still looked vulnerable against the run, however. Look out for any team with a heavy pass rush, opportunistic secondary, and a smash-mouth running game when playing the Colts
The Indianapolis Colts will play the Denver Broncos in week 3.
Week 2 NFL Power Rankings #03: Houston Texans (2-0)
The Houston Texans jump from #5 to #3 after an impressive road comeback against the Houston Texans, 30-27 in overtime. The Houston Texans were plagued with the incapability of winning games. After defeating the defending AFC champions in week 1 and showing the gumption for making a road comeback in week 2, the Houston Texans could be the AFC’s best team, or at least offense. Their pass defense could be an Achilles heel, however.
The Texans will host the Dalls Cowboys in what may be the NFL’s most anticipated in-state rivalry… or at least, out-of-conference rivalry.
Week 2 NFL Power Rankings #02: Green Bay Packers (2-0)
The Green Bay Packers remain at #2 after handling the Buffalo Bills, 34-7. Aaron Rodgers struggled throughout the first half of the game before finding a 2nd half groove. The Packers have looked good despite Rodgers sluggish start. The Packers rushing attack was dismal, as Brandon Jackson was outperformed by John Kuhn. If the Packers can
The Green Bay Packers will travel to Chicago to play the Bears on Monday Night Football. Winner will be 3-0 and lead the division.
Week 2 NFL Power Rankings #01: New Orleans Saints (1-0)
They weren’t impressive in their regular season opening victory, but the defending Super Bowl champions remain at #1 until they lose.
The New Orleans Saints will host the Atlanta Falcons in week 3.
OUT: Minnesota Vikings (8), New York Giants (9), Tennessee Titans (10)
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Tennessee Titans
