Who are the top ten NFL teams after Week 4 of the 2010 season? Where are the Pittsburgh Steelers? Green Bay Packers? Dallas Cowboys? A brief evaluation of each of the top ten teams in these top-ten NFL Power Rankings.
The Kansas City Chiefs are the league’s last undefeated team, but their opponents have a combined 3-9 record. I’m not willing to give them a ranking yet. However, if the Chiefs defeat the Indianapolis Colts with two weeks of preparation in week 5, then they’ll be #1 until they lose a game.
Visit my website at the end of these rankings to find spread and totals predictions for all games from me and other writers! If you’re interested in my 32-team power rankings (but without the explanations), then visit my website under my predictions material. You’ll find this top-ten expanded version and full power rankings listing there.
Week 4 NFL Power Rankings #10 Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers fall 2 places after narrowly escaping Lambeau with a 28-26 victory over the Detroit Lions. For the second consecutive week, the Packers looked miserable as they committed 4 turnovers. The Packers are looking young and aren’t handling the preseason hype of being Super Bowl favorites well.
The Green Bay Packers will travel to Washington to take on the Redskins
Week 4 NFL Power Rankings #09 Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears fall 3 places to #10 after a 17-3 defeat to the New York Giants. The Bears offensive line was exploited after allowing 10 sacks. Jay Cutler and Todd Collins were both knocked out of the game. Cutler’s long-term health was jeopardized after a concussion. The Bears defense continues to be opportunistic, but their offensive line is in shambles. Don’t expect them to remain in these power rankings as they’re only in there currently for beating Green Bay.
The Chicago Bears travel to Carolina where Julius Peppers will take on his former team, the Panthers.
Week 4 NFL Power Rankings #08: Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts fall 4 places after losing to divisional rival Jacksonville, 31-28. The Colts will always be a playoff competitor with Peyton Manning, but their defense has become too erratic to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender. The Jaguars came off two blowout losses before upsetting one of the AFC’s Super Bowl favorites.
Could the Colts find themselves under .500? They’ll host the last undefeated team in the NFL in week 5, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Week 4 NFL Power Rankings #07: Houston Texans
The Houston Texans jump up 2 after a 31-24 victory in Oakland. The Texans defensive front 7 should improve with the return of Brian Cushing. The Houston Texans have went from having no rushing game to possibly having the league’s best rushing attack. Arian Foster is averaging nearly six yards per game as the compliment to Matt Schuab and the Texans passing attack.
The Houtson Texans will host the New York Giants in week 5.
Week 4 NFL Power Rankings #06: New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints remain at #6 after defeating the Panthers 16-14. Super Bowl hangover? Fans shouldn’t forget that the Saints were winning games ugly during 2009 also. They barely escaped with a victory against the Rams, who ended 2009 at 1-15. The Saints do win many games ugly and it’s early in the season.
The Saints travel to Arizona to challenge the Arizona Cardinals.
Week 4 NFL Power Rankings #05: Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons remain at #5 after a 16-14 victory against the 49ers. The Falcons offense has been inconsistent under Matt Ryan as they dodged a bullet against the 49ers due to their special teams play. Albeit 3-1, the Falcons could be anywhere from 1-3 to 4-0.
The Atlanta Falcons will travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns in week 5.
Week 4 NFL Power Rankings #04: New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are at #4 after defeating the Miami Dolphins 41-14 after taking advantage of four Miami Dolphin special team and Chad Henne miscues.
The New England Patriots have a bye during week 5.
Week 4 NFL Power Rankings #03: New York Jets
The New York Jets reenter the top 10 at #3 after dismantling Buffalo, 38-14. The Jets big jump wasn’t because of their sizable victory over the Bills as much as it was their body of work over the past three weeks. The Jets have proven that they are the AFC East’s best team. While the Steelers have been winning without Roethlisberger, the Jets are winning without Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes. If Mark Sanchez continues his maturing play and Revis remains healthy, the Jets could live up to their preseason hype.
The Jets will host the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.
Week 4 NFL Power Rankings #02: Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers finish 3-1 without Ben Roethlisberger after a 17-14 home loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Joe Flacco led the Ravens on a game clinching drive that prevented the Steelers from going undefeated with Roethlisberger. With the return of their Pro Bowl caliber QB, the Steelers could be the NFL’s premiere team.
The Steelers have a bye during week 5.
Week 4 NFL Power Rankings #01: Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens are the newest #1 team. So far, it’s proven to be a curse to be the #1 team on these power rankings. The Ravens defeated the Steelers 17-14 in one of the league’s most hostile home field advantages. Joe Flacco complimented the Ravens defense as he led the Ravens to a game-winning drive in the late fourth quarter. The Ravens are one of the three AFC teams who have the best potential for having strong, balanced attacks on both sides of the ball. For the Ravens, it all depends on the development of Joe Flacco.
The Baltimore Ravens will host the Denver Broncos in week 5.
OUT: Cincinnati Bengals (10)
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Green Bay Packers, San Diego Chargers, Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs
