We find out that Vince is only a junior. I don’t know if they mentioned it before this episode, but I had always assumed he was a senior, probably because he received all of those letters from colleges in an earlier episode. I thought it was his recruitment year, but the writers pulled a fast one on us. So anyway, at the end of the last episode, the coaches at TMU talk to Vince illegally. They aren’t supposed to talk directly to him at all until he’s a senior. When Vince tells Coach T about it, Taylor asks both Vince and Vince’s father to trust him to handle the recruiters. However, during the Lions’ next football game, a TMU scout gets all buddy-buddy with Vince’s dad. We know what kind of man Daddy Howard is, so we don’t trust him to do the right thing and keep his promise to Coach. It totally reminds me of the whole Cam Newton debacle. I just hope Vince’s father doesn’t do anything to ruin Vince’s chances or keep the Lions out of the playoffs.
The Lions continue their winning streak by traveling 250 miles to claim revenge against a team that beat the pants off of them last season. We get scenes of the guys sitting around talking about porn in their hotel room and scenes of the coaches drinking together after the game. The funniest scene from this episode is when the bus breaks down and we get a shot of the players lined up along the highway. They piss simultaneously in the grass. Awww. Nothing shows team unity like a group pissing session.
Julie ditches class twice to hang out with her married boyfriend. Apparently, he’s encouraging her to skip out on poetry readings to drive out to the middle of nowhere and talk about…nothing. This guy is disgusting. Didn’t Julie learn her lesson about hanging out with douchey older guys three years ago when she got mixed up with The Swede? I guess not. The best part of the episode was when douche bag’s wife shows up in the commons area at school and slaps the sh*t out of Julie (ala Angela Collette) and announces what a slut she is to a small crowd of onlookers. I think this was done more for drama than anything else. I mean, if Mrs. Douche Bag works there, then why would she air her dirty laundry in front of everyone? She reminds me of the characters on Grey’s Anatomy. They are professionals with no sense of decorum. They just scream when they want and think about the consequences later. After she slaps Julie, Mrs. Douche even announces that Julie isn’t the first person her husband has cheated on her with. So why is she still with that douche? Also, Mrs. Douche walks down the hallway screaming “Julie Taylor is a SLUT!” It was awesome.
Earlier in the episode, Prof. Douche tells Julie that he and his wife aren’t in love. He says they just like each other. I think he’s only telling Julie this to make it seem as if what she’s doing isn’t wrong. I think he’s trying to say that it’s not a real marriage so it’s okay for him to screw around with 18-yr-olds behind his wife’s back.
In other news:
Coach Riggins is kind of a joke. He gives a long-winded speech that should be motivational, but it isn’t.
Ruckle and the guys decide to brand themselves with a hot makeshift iron to show their unity and camaraderie. Stupid, huh? Ruckle teases Buddy about being a virgin and Buddy doesn’t seem to fit in with the other team members. I guess he hasn’t earned his spot yet….until we see him with a big jagged “L” on his arm. Also, wasn’t Buddy Jr. a rebel in the last episode? He stole his dad’s car, got hammered, acted a fool, and now he’s someone completely different. I’m not sure I get him. If he’s a true bad boy, would he really try so hard to fit in with the team? I mean, you’d never see a guy like Riggins or Smash carrying the team’s water cooler would you? Has joining the team really changed Buddy from troubled teen to water boy / luggage handler since last week?
