Juliette Brindak is a student at Washington University in St. Louis, one of the best universities in the country. Brindak also became a millionaire at age 17 thanks to her own social networking website called Miss O and Friends. Third Age reports that Brindak created the website at age 15, and went to several executives at large companies to secure funding for her site, which caters to tween girls between the ages of 8 and 12. She is the CEO of her website, which employs 20 people and has sold over 100,000 copies of a book based upon the social networking site.
Juliette Brindak took the inspiration for her website from her own imagination. Brindak told College News that at age 10 she drew a series of characters, including one called Miss O. In 2005, Brindak launched MissOandFriends.com to have a website for tween girls. Her older sister inspired her because, when Brindak’s sister became a teenager, she realized that school, stress, and boys can turn girls mean.
Brindak decided that tween girls needed a place to just relax and have fun. Now her characters have turned into an Internet sensation that has gotten global attention, with Proctor and Gamble as a major investor in the website.
Now at age 21 the anthropology student is worth $15 million. Miss O and Friends has all kinds of things to engage the senses, including a pop quiz about your favorite celebrities and webisodes of a series called “First Day.” This is in addition to the usual games, forums, and music. Part of the allure of Miss O and Friends is the fact that the tween girls run the website themselves, so they can call it their own.
Brindak was selected to go to Russia, according to her own website’s news, as part of the Youth International Economic Forum in June of 2010. Miss O and Friends is ranked as the #4 website for girls in the world.
Miss O and Friends is a positive online presence that has its own lawyer and psychologist. The website helps to uplift young girls to realize their potential and to not give up on their dreams. Juliette Brindak serves as an inspiration to hundreds of thousands of girls, and has stated that her next big goal is to have over a million visitors a month.
What started out as a doodle at age 10 inspired Brindak to become a millionaire. It is this kind of drive and energy that can give girls on her website the self-esteem to succeed in their own lives as well.
