Junior’s Restaurant, located at 386 Flatbush Ave. in downtown Brooklyn, is having a recipe contest to help celebrate their 60th anniversary. Founded by Harry Rosen in 1950, Junior’s restaurant is known across the country as the home of New York’s best cheesecake. From now until Sept. 30, you can enter to win a trip to New York to visit the original Junior’s Restaurant, as well as have your cheesecake featured at Junior’s for a limited time, along with a cash prize of $1,800.
There are three ways to enter the contest: by mail, online or in the restaurant. The recipe must be original and not copied in any way from any other source. The recipe must include a name, ingredients, utensils used, exact measurements, how long the recipe takes to create, how many servings the recipe yields, and/or any special instructions that go along with it.
The recipes will be judged in a total of three rounds. The first round will judge on appeal, originality and creativity. The highest-scoring recipes will then move on to round two, where they will be judged upon taste, originality, creativity and appearance. Three winners from round two will move on to round three, where there will be a bake-off in which the final product is judged on taste, originality, creativity and appearance.
The bake-off will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, and be judged by a panel which will include Junior’s cheesecake lovers. What better way to celebrate an anniversary than with a bake-off?
Fortunately, you don’t have to live in downtown Brooklyn to experience this historic cheesecake. Junior’s has an online catalog on their website from which you can order any of their delicious treats. There’s even a cheesecake sampler where you can get a taste of a few different types of their cakes at once.
