The Justin Bieber laser tag assault investigation seems to be moving in a new direction, as an official complaint was levied. Justin Bieber is accused of striking a boy while he was playing laser tag in Canada this past weekend. CBS News is reporting that the father of the boy he allegedly assaulted has now filed a complaint against him. This is bad news, because it not only shows that this drama is not going to go away, but that the celebrity of Bieber is going to work against him here. This wouldn’t even be an issue if Bieber wasn’t a pop superstar, and we almost expect a civil suit to be filed from this ridiculous case. Ridiculous in the sense that this doesn’t actually seem like something that would be a big deal in the “real world”, and which has been completely blown out of proportion.
TMZ reported back on Sunday morning that the police were investigating reports of an alleged incident at a laser tag facility in Richmond, British Columbia. Different stories from witnesses, as well as different interpretations portrayed by Bieber and the other kid have complicated matters, and really make this whole situation hard to figure out. Bieber claims that he was cornered by several kids in the laser tag facility, and that one of them used derogatory homophobic slurs against him. He also stated that one of the kids put out a hand towards him, and that Bieber brushed it away as he was trying to get out of there. Even a staff employee called the contact an “accident” while Bieber was trying to leave the situation.
Many news reports have alluded to Bieber hitting the other kid (a 12-year-old), but that has never been officially confirmed by anyone. It seems that this was an instance where Bieber’s story is extremely believable, and that he indeed feared for his own safety when he was cornered and had other kids using derogatory terms towards him. Bieber already announced that he wants to help campaign against the type of bullying that he endured at the laser tag facility, and he seems like he would be a good spokesperson that could reach out to millions of kids. The problem though, is that his image is taking a bit of a hit because of this laser tag incident, and his celebrity is definitely working against him in this case.
