Justin Bieber might soon be the host of Punk’d if MTV and Ashton Kutcher have their way. Justin Bieber has a pretty busy schedule as it is, but now he might be tapped to host a television show when he actually does have some down time. According to MSN, Bieber has already been officially involved in negotiations for the show. Much in the way that Ashton Kutcher won over viewers as the original host of the show, it seems like Bieber could be someone that draws a lot of viewers to the network. It is certainly very understandable why MTV would want to be involved in any project that would put Bieber on the air more, and Kutcher has the right idea to stay involved.
For those television fans who don’t know what Punk’dwas, it was a show that aired for a while on MTV, and was hosted by Ashton Kutcher. The premise of the show was for Kutcher and a group of his friends (sometimes actors and actresses) to pull elaborate pranks on other celebrities that he knew. The object was always to catch them off guard, and put those celebrities in situations where they simply didn’t know how to react. Some of the funniest episodes included Justin Timberlake having all of his possessions repossessed and Jessica Biel having a child left with her at lunch.
Kutcher often wasn’t in front of the camera as the situations were carried out, but rather would be in a trailer where he could see everything on camera and give instructions to the actors and actresses through ear pieces. It worked really well, and if Bieber were to step right into that roll, giving him constant screen time on the show, it could really revive the show. Punk’d used to be one of those shows that would draw viewers to MTV, and it looks like they could be really close to making it a winner once again. In the new version, Kutcher would serve as an Executive Producer, and he could probably use many of his contacts to put celebrities in new situations for the show.
Anything that Justin Bieber becomes involved with seems to turn to gold, and MTV is really smart to put serious time into trying to make this project become a reality. Putting Bieber on an MTV program every week could certainly lead to an increase in viewers, and they only need look at the ratings that the 2010 CSI season premiere were able to pull in with Bieber serving as the guest star. There isn’t any news about when the show would officially go into production or air on the network, but this is an idea that MTV should make sure becomes a reality.
