This will be the fourth year the winners will be selected from online votes. Music lovers wanting to cast ballots for their favorite artists can go to amavote.com, or go to ama.abc.com. Voting is currently open.
AMA categories include Pop/Rock, Soul/R&B, Rap/Hip-Hop, Country, Alternative, Adult Contemporary, Latin, Soundtracks, and Contemporary Inspirational. The list of all nominees is on the website here.
“I Kissed A Girl,” Katy Perry’s signature tune, helped to elevate her in the pop/rock world with its avant-garde lyrics that gives the singer a bit of an edge. Recently married in Rajasthan, India to Russel Brand, British comedian and actor, she has stayed busy making music. Her latest feat is album “Teenage Dream” which landed at the number 1 position on the Billboard Charts upon its’ recent release.
Katy’s latest spun off two chart-toppers, “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream.” Perry hits the road in February to promote the album, heading to Europe, Australia, then back home to the U.S. by the summer.
By now most people know Justin Bieber as the YouTube sensation who sang to us from the Internet and won the hearts of many fans…that would include a lot of young ladies out there in musicland. As a matter of fact, he’s in the ” over one billion views” club for his tune “Baby,” the single most viewed music video on You Tube. You go, Justin!
He’s young, and hard-working, already releasing two albums, “My World” in 2009, and “My World 2.0” in 2010. Definitely a worthy candidate for AMA’s Artist of the Year.
LA musician Ke$Ha, daughter of songwriter Pebe Sebert, hit the big time with Flo Rida, who collaborated with the talented artist on the tune “Right Round.” Well, the duo had a number 1 hit on their hands and on Billboard’s Hot 100. With a number one hit single, the singer said she was flat broke but, Ks$ha came back with a vengeance and a number 1 album, “Animal.” (The number 1 suits her well).
Off her “Animal” release came “Tik Tok,” which peaked at number 2, going certified platinum with over 2 million units sold globally.
AMA producer Larry Klein said, “Justin, Katy, and Ke$ha have been on top of the charts all year long. We are happy to see each of them make their own AMA history.”
