Upkeep on your skin needs to be done daily to keep it hydrated and moisturized. During the cold winter months you will have to step up your regime in order to obtain healthy skin. Inside heat sources and the outside freezing temperatures tend to zap the moisture right out of your skin. This is the time of year you need to focus on cleansing your skin gently and using a sufficient moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.
Cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing have to be done if you want to keep your glowing skin throughout the winter months.
Keeping yourself hydrated on the inside is a must. This does not mean coffee and alcohol which has the opposite effect. Drink water and eat lots of fruit. Apples and oranges are very good for you.
Once a week, before you shower exfoliate your skin using a sugar scrub and a loofah. Sugar scrubs are available in many stores or you can search online for a recipe to make at home. Always use gentle, circular motions with a loofah. Scrub your entire body and rinse with warm water.
In the cold winter months shorten your bathing time. Do not use super hot water either. This will zap what moisture you have out of your skin. If you want to soak in a bubble bath use warm, not hot water and use a product that is all-natural or organic in your bath.
Switch to an organic cleanser and soap. They are better for your skin and do not contain the harsh chemicals like some do which will dry out your skin. Wash gently as scrubbing too hard may lead to dry, flaky skin.
Moisturize thoroughly. Use a facial moisturizer for your face and neck. This should be a thick cream and the night-time formulas always make a great choice. Also use this on any parts of your body where you have rough, flaky skin like elbows, feet and kneecaps. Do this twice a day and if you are outside in the cold for long periods of time, do this three times a day for sufficient moisturizing.
Take care of your lips. Chapped, cracked, bleeding lips are a nuisance and a common occurrence in the winter. Keep a tube of lip balm with you at all times and don’t lick your lips.
Dry, dehydrated skin left untreated can become very painful for some. Keep yourself hydrated and moisturized to keep your glowing skin though the winter months.
