Recently, I heard on a local Connecticut radio station that Kim Kardashian is starting up a music career. If I had not seen several celebrities such as Paris Hilton attempt and fail to impress the masses with their musical talent, I would not be skeptical. Part of me thinks maybe she might have some surprise musical talent hidden somewhere, but the greater part of me tends to think she should stick to her day job.
How many times have we seen celebrities record an album, JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN. Let us see: Lindsay Lohan? Hilary Duff? Heidi Montag? It may have worked for these celebrities and the record companies momentarily due to their fame, but they were quick to fade from the musical spotlight and retreat back into acting. Heidi Montag was especially fast to retreat and has been spiraling down to the celebrity D-List ever since.
It makes me a bit annoyed to see celebrities just “tasting the music business” to see if they like it. There are so many talented individuals out there waiting to be discovered by record labels. I think it is time for Kim Kardashian and her celebrity friends to step aside and let the real, hardworking musicians take a shot at stardom.
This is not to say that Kim is not fabulous at what she does. It does take a certain genius to turn a sex tape into a successful career. Kardashian was able to leave the negativity behind and expand her empire. The fact is, though, that she already has an empire. Do not waste valuable space that could be used by those who have not had the chance at fame. Give the girl playing thirty gigs a week a chance. Give the band traveling across the country and funding their own tour a chance. Kim could be incredibly talented and we just do not know it, but there are so many people longing to have close to what she even has. It is time to give those who do not have the celebrity to promote their talents a fighting chance!
