KOTOR won “game developers choice awards” for game of the year in 2004. It was top video game seller for the year 2004 as well. KOTOR is a RPG (role playing game) set in the Star Wars universe about 3000 years before the movies. Available platforms for this game are PC and XBOX.
You start off playing as a soldier, who crash lands on a planet named Taris. Along your journey you meet other in game characters and team up with them. They become your “party”, and they help you complete your missions throughout the game. Eventually you become a Jedi, and you must choose between the light and dark sides of the force. Choices you make throughout the game all effect whether your character leans toward the light or dark side. So if you’re mean to people, and kill innocents, then you earn dark side points. The same idea goes for the light side. When you finally become a Jedi, you are sent on a quest to defeat the evil Darth Malak, and save the galaxy.
(WARNING: Plot Spoiler Ahead) There is a huge twist to the game, and you find out that you are not who you think you are. You were once a Sith Lord named Revan, and the Jedi erased your memory and trained you to defeat your old apprentice, Darth Malak. At the end of the game you either get a light side ending or a dark side ending, and you choose to be a savior or a conqueror.
I’d give KOTOR 5 out of 5 stars, and so will every other game reviewer. This game is one of the greatest video games ever created. The company Bioware did a great job, and they also created a sequel to this game called “Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords”. Bioware’s latest game “The Old Republic” is still in development, and will be an online Star Wars game set around the same time period as KOTOR 1 and 2.
