Just last week, Bishop Eddie Long had said during a conversation to Cory “Coco Brother” Condrey that he may not attend a popular Christian rally known as “The Stand”, held annually in Atlanta. Long worried that his presence at the conference may cause a sensation and “draw attention away from the message of God”.
It was no surprise to learn that Long was a no-show to The Stand, which typically draws more than 40,000 attendees from across the country. I mean, Long was after all, concerned about taking away from the message of the good Lord! What is a surprise, however, is the reason that Long cited for not showing up. Long said that a family emergency came up, leaving him unable to attend the conference, according to Katherine T. Phan of The Christian Post.
I’ve long taken a rather neutral stand as far as whether or not I believe that Long is guilty or innocent of any form of misconduct in regards to the allegations of sexual misconduct that thrust him into national attention back in September. I’ve always stuck to a train of thought that it wasn’t abuse if they were of age and consented. I mean, people get manipulated sexually every day. One of the men that used me was and still is loaded. How can I proceed with a lawsuit against him? But, back to the point.
Stating a “family emergency” came up is one of the oldest fibs in the book used to get out of doing something or going somewhere. After his statement to Condrey, I have to ask why if Long truly didn’t want to go that he couldn’t address the matter honestly, from one man of the cloth to another. Long was worried about taking away from the message of God, yet what could he have shared with those around him. If others could not remain focused, is that really an issue for Long to remain silent over or does he, out of the public eye, pray for the souls of those that are losing their way to spend so much time focusing and obsessing over his guilt or innocence.
I truly don’t believe that Bishop Eddie long is guilty of any sexual misconduct, but I can’t say that I believe that he is not guilty in the matter of the property lawsuit against him or that he really had a family emergency Saturday.
