When I think of cobs, I think of Frosty the Snowman’s pipe and those corn-on-the-cobs you get at the fair. What I don’t think of is building materials. Cob is used to describe natural materials, such as straw and sand, which can be used to build numerous structures. Intrigued?
Well, Full Circle Farm in Sunnyvale is going to be running a “Free Community Cob Building Workshop” on November 7 from 8am until 5pm. This is a drop-in workshop, so you don’t have to stay the whole day and are welcome to stop in as long as you can. If you plan to come by during lunch, they encourage you to bring some food to share, potluck style.
The farm will introduce you to cob building and you can help make cob seating for their Student Education Garden. While this is a free event, donations are welcome. To register, contact Ashlie Feffer at Ashlie@FullCircleSunnyvale.org. The 11-acre farm is located at 1055 Dunford Way, near Raynor Park.
