How to Make Poached Eggs in the Microwave
To make a perfectly poached egg with the microwave you will need a coffee mug, water, eggs, and a small plate to cover the mug. First you want to fill the mug a third of the way or half way to the top. You will then crack an egg and gently pour the egg into the cup without breaking the yolk. If you do break the yolk, no biggie, just take it out and use it for something else, the egg white and yolk will last at least 24 hours in the fridge .
Once you have an undisturbed egg yolk and egg white in the mug of water, cover the mug with a small plate or lid and microwave on high for one minute. Do not leave the microwave because you are going to be listening for a soft pop sound.
Listen Carefully So You Have a Perfect Poached Egg
As soon as you hear the POP you want to turn the microwave off immediately so that you don’t overcook the egg. You can let the egg sit in the mug for a minute before you take it out of the microwave. You might want to wait because for one, the mug is going to be hot and two, you don’t want to run the risk of the water exploding in your face! Once you take it out of the microwave you can use a spoon to scoop out the poached egg and serve immediately with whatever sides you choose.
How to Make Hard Boiled Eggs in the Microwave
You can also make hard boiled eggs in the microwave. Take a microwave safe bowl that will fit in your microwave and place the eggs (still in shell) in a single layer in the bowl. Cover the eggs with at least an inch of water over them. Adding a tablespoon of salt to the water will help make the shells softer and thus easier to peel later.
Cook on high for 10 to 15 minutes. Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave and cover the bowl with a lid and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes longer. The eggs will continue to cook while they sit in the bowl.
Tips to Peeling a Hard Boiled Egg
Have problems peeling the hard-boiled egg? Simply roll the cooled egg on a hard surface with just enough pressure to cause hundreds of little cracks of the shell while maintaining that thin membrane that holds the shell in place. Once you have done this, place the egg in cool water for a couple of minutes and the water will seep into those cracks and the eggs will peel easily and quickly!
Making eggs in the microwave is easy and fast. Don’t sit and wait for the water to boil when you can make hard boiled eggs in the microwave and make the best poached eggs in there as well!
