The much loved childhood toy Lego’s has made it to the internet as a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG).1 Targeted for the teens of the world, Lego Universe releases your imagination in what seems to be a never ending story. Good news – NetDevil thought of pretty much everything, the first thing that draws your attention is the detail. Every precipice is like holding and building a Lego Universe in your hand.
Lego Universe offers four modes of their virtual universe, build, play, customize and connect.
Build allows a player to take virtual Lego pieces and literally build an adventure. Every piece of Lego ever offered in a game is offered in the Lego Universe to the point you can take off the shelf Lego toy instructions and build the toy virtually. This allows unending play and what you build before can be used for the next adventure.
Play can be done by your virtual player or working as a team to accomplish a task or adventure. Maelstrom, the basic darkness that threatens to make imagination disappear, offers the virtual player the chance to battle the darkness with everything possible and anything plausible. Offering Smashables, the virtual player has Lego objects to smash and gather loot.
Another feature of the Lego Universe you can build your own racecar and race your online friends on massive and unending Lego racetracks to win prizes.
Already storyboarded, the Lego Universe comes equipped explaining how the impending doom of the Maelstrom started and is chock full of teams of villains and adventures to battle to defeat the impending Maelstrom. Lego Universe comes equipped with tips and tricks as well as monthly newsletter that gives insight to play. Under the Community tab they have a section of release notes that keeps players up to date on enhancements made as players expand the virtual world of Lego Universe.
Customizing allows a virtual player to add and enhance their character through adventures, collecting loot, winning races, etc. It seems there is no end to the imagination here.
Connect. An expansive communication and community system is available – Battle to save imagination, PvP (Player versus Player) competitions, MiniChat, Mail, MegaChat making the Lego Universe all around virtual playground. An added feature is the care and safety that Lego Universe has put into their MMORPG. At the top of the website – the Parent tab. Clicking on it it takes the parent to the Safety pages which explains in text and video what MMORPG is and how Lego Universe is different than other MMORPG games, it offers parents a site for their kids to play safely on. Lego Universe stresses is safety and they even claim a staff of professional moderators that monitor the website 24-7 to make sure it remains safe.
