Have you got to be reminded of the basics? What were you doing in your junior demon classes?
Pride, pride, pride! Can you remember that? PRIDE! This is the key to every and any human! For once listen to your elders. This has worked since their beginning and will until they are all safely in our fold-which you delay with your supposed inventiveness.
As for your subject, apply this pride to the two basic targets. And in case they TOO have slipped through that sieve you call your mind, those would be: his work life and his sex life.
Lest I confuse you, I will write of the first one this time and leave the other for my next letter.
His work will be your best source of self-righteous pride for the rest of his life. It is the only thing he has of his own to brag about, so let him compare himself to others in his field. You’ve been given an easy case as your first, theology students being so caught up in their self-righteousness already.
First, let him compare himself to the others he sees daily. Point out their flaws and magnify his own strength in that area, especially in his fellow students. Anything contrary to their Abominable Book or, even better, contrary to his own upbringing, these are good subjects. Let him see how good he is compared to them. Let him dwell on their strong points if you wish, but only to produce guilt at his own weakness in the area. Or, if he is one of those type to try to fix things within himself, explain his weakness away as being “not his area of giftedness” and let him rest smug on that. Then you can have him disdain the others as gifted with lesser gifts .
Second, let him compare himself to the best in his field. Again, where they are weak (as all humans are) magnify those things, especially if they are trivial or of no real impact on their work. In his line of work, we have done an admirable job of convincing humans that their effectiveness is based on their looks and education, so continue in that. Do NOT suggest at any time that the best have ‘overcome their faults’ or that they ave been use ‘in spite of it’! You will tip him off to the truth that their Leader is blind to such things and simply uses whomever is willing at the time He needs someone.
This is enough for now. It is nothing new but you have obviously forgotten the basics. I suggest you open their Book and see what has worked in the past. You might then at least keep up with them, even if not up to the standard I set for you.
