Lil Wayne fans across the country rejoice in the knowledge that their hero has finally been released from his 9-month stint at Rikers Island. After being convicted on gun charges back in March, and though he was behind bars, his new album has done surprisingly well. His fans have rallied with him through the past few months, and there is little doubt that his star will only continue to rise now that he has been released from prison. Lil Wayne has talked about someday releasing the journal that he kept while in prison as a book, along with another album sometime next year.
It seems that he is back on the right track after his release, but there are some who are not so lucky.
Paris Hilton, for instance, was taken to prison in 2007 for driving on a suspended license while on probation for alcohol-related reckless driving. The starlet only spent 23 days of her 45-day sentence in prison, and was released early due to good behavior and overcrowding. It would look as though the star, who admitted that the time in jail was scary, would have straightened up, but earlier this year Hilton was found with cocaine in her purse when pulled over on a routine traffic stop.
Another star who did not walk the straight-and-narrow after his jail sentence was rapper T.I.. He and wife Tameka Cottle were busted on felony possession of a controlled substance, ecstasy, hot off the tail of his release from prison. T.I. was sent back to jail for violation of his probation and released early the next morning on bail. He was sent to jail the first time on a federal weapons charge.
Yet another star who had to do time in the pokey was Khloe Kardashian. She was convicted on a DUI charge and sentenced to 30 days in prison. The celebutante turned herself in to begin her jail sentence on July 18 but was released shortly thereafter on good behavior. She has since been married and has made the best of her life avoiding bad behavior.
All of these celebrities could take a moment to realize that just because they are celebrities, they cannot do whatever they want. Hopefully Lil Wayne will use the success from his album and the lessons he learned while in jail to do good and won’t fall back into the lifestyle that landed him in prison in the first place. By heeding the examples of the celebrities mentioned, hopefully Lil Wayne can turn his life around and become a law-abiding citizen.
