Lindsay Lohan appeared in court Friday at the mercy of Judge Elden S. Fox, hoping to be sent back to rehab instead of jail. Lohan, wearing a black jacket with jeans and a white T-shirt, faced the Judge with mom Dina and dad Michael, both present for the hearing sitting on opposite sides of the courtroom.
After Lohan’s appearance on MTV’s Video Music Awards, the world stood poised for a comeback. But just days after the airing of the awards, it was clear that it just wasn’t in the cards. Lohan reportedly failed two drug tests which inevitably catapulted her into the position she finds herself this Friday.
Lohan showed up in court with one thing in mind: staying out of jail. According to MSNBC, Prosecutor Danette Meyers expressed some frustration, telling the judge, “The only reason she’s in Betty Ford is because the court was going to send her to jail”. Meyers also added, “She didn’t have some epiphany.”
Lohan’s attorney Shawn Chapman Holley pleaded with the court, stating “I would ask the court to not punish her…she’s trying her best. She’s remaining in Betty Ford.” Holley also told the court that Lohan’s relapse is all a part of the recovery of an addict.
After reading a handwritten note by Lohan, Fox’s reply was “I appreciated it,” he said. “I’m new to this rodeo. I think there’s nothing better for the media than a Hollywood celebrity in a train wreck. You are going to complete the program. I cannot emphasize enough that I will not be manipulated.”
Fox gave a stern warning of dire consequences for failure. Only time will tell if Lohan’s note was a sincere effort to truly get help and petition the court for a second chance, or if it was all an attempt to manipulate Fox into giving in to her wishes for freedom in the safe haven of rehab rather than confinement in a jail cell. Everyone is watching and waiting for the outcome of this never-ending saga.
With the latest troubles surrounding the once-beloved child star, it’s hard for anyone to see the adorable little girl with red hair and freckles that charmed us all in the movie The Parent Trap. Many are left wondering what went wrong and how Lohan got to this place that she now finds herself. Her career has been on hold as she finds her way through the maze of legal troubles that she has created for herself. There was a time when Lohan was the face of family movies and appeared to be an example to young girls everywhere. Nowadays it appears that she herself is in need of a strong example and role model to follow which she cannot seem to find with her mother or her estranged father.
Fox released Lohan back to rehab per the recommendations of her doctors and ordered the starlet to remain at the Betty Ford Center until Jan. 3. Lohan is said to be due back in court on Feb. 25. Lindsay will be required to test for drugs and alcohol during the break between her release from rehab until her February court appearance.
Fox later told Lohan “You’re staying past the New Year’s – there’s a reason for that.” Lohan left the court in tears.
