Lindsay Lohan takes to her Twitter page to confess to her fans that she did in fact fail a drug test, and she is ready to take her consequences. Lohan has not failed just one drug test, she has failed two, according to TMZ.
Her Twitter explanation is very heroic in its face value as she talks about being like anyone else who is in recovery who will have set backs. She calls herself “a work in process”. I cannot help thinking she is just setting the stage for her court date.
Lohan’s Twitter excuse seems to say – I failed a drug test, but it is OK, it is all part of my addiction!
Lohan claims she as been working hard on staying clean and sober, but yet she was just out of rehab when she started frequenting the clubs again, according to Us Magazine. This article talked about the same old habits coming back and that nothing has changed in Lohan’s lifestyle. I have to question just how hard she really is working and what it is she was working on?
Is Lohan working hard to stay away from drugs, or is she working hard at keeping her antics out of the public eye? Am I being cynical? Yes I am and for good reason. Lohan needs to work on her total disregard for authority before doing anything else. She has an air about her that appears as if she is still going to do what she pleases. This may be what she is “addicted” to more than anything else.
We saw this with her attitude when wearing the ankle monitor and her excuses about it detecting alcohol, according to the NY Daily News. This behavior is nothing more than a learned behavior with her constantly skirting the full force of consequences. Yes, she went to jail and to rehab, but both were cut short.
Lohan most likely did learn something from her experience in rehab and that is what her speech on Twitter conveyed. Addiction will usually render a person to slip, so she is just following the road map set out for her. Instead of working on not slipping, she has tempted herself by falling into her same old habits of clubbing and hanging out with the same people she allegedly did all these drugs with.
If she blew a drug or alcohol test, she had this knowledge to fall back on. Lohan was just doing what someone with an addiction does, “have a slip”.
Most likely during the entire ordeal she had her “get out of jail free” speech ready to fire off. Or so she is hoping for a “get out of jail free” pass with her public “acknowledgement” of behaving normally for someone who has an addiction.
What makes Lohan’s “addiction” different from many others is that she seems to be “addicted” to the partying scene, rather than to a drug of choice. We have seen her feed that “addiction” almost from the get go out of rehab. She never really worked on this.
Lohan may be playing the system, much like she has played her parents and her fans for the years she was involved in her substance abuse. She is smart, she has learned the “addiction” journey and what it entails and she just may be using this for her benefit. You cannot say you had a “slip” and blame it on the addiction cycle when you never really stopped. Once getting out of rehab she jumped right back into the same old scene that breeds drugs and alcohol.
In my years as a mental health counselor, I have seen many people that have acted in the fashion of Lindsay Lohan. Instead of using the education she has gained from rehab to work on getting her life straightened out, she may be incorporating it into part of her “addiction” and using it for an excuse to continue with her life style.
Lohan is apparently just not ready to acknowledge she has a problem. Oh, she may say this in public and write about this on Twitter, but she has to truly believe it before anything is going to change. This “slip” of hers has violated the terms of probation and she is due to go back to jail for 30 days. It just might be because she has a new and possibly more lenient judge, Judge Elden Fox, that she feels she will not have to. This could be something she has had in the back of her mind in case she did get caught by failing a drug test.
The first judge in her case stepped down, when in all reality she probably did more good for Lohan than anyone that has touched her life so far. I cannot help but wonder if Lohan might have abided by the rules set forth in her probation if she knew she had to face, Judge Marsha N. Revel, the first judge to hear her case again. She was the judge who set all the strict jail, rehab, and probation terms.
