One of the hottest elections this year is for Texas’ District 25. This is why many of the democrats in the area have been urged to start voting early and to make sure that they make the deadline in order to ensure that the election gets as many voters as possible. Whether voting for Lloyd Doggett or Donna Campbell for this position, the most important issue is just getting out there to vote and to make those votes count.
Lloyd Doggett is up against Donna Campbell for reelection in District 25 and many feel that he is bound to win. He however is not taking the campaign lightly and says that she has a good shot to win if the voters make that decision. For the first time he is up against some serious competition and many feel that the voters are looking for some changes and these changes may take place from the bottom up. Another issue is that voter turnout has been significantly dropping over the past few electoral years and it seems as though the trend is continuing.
Some of the issues separating the two candidates are:
• Federal Funding for Education – This is one of the hottest debates in this campaign with Doggett being for federal funding and Campbell opposed to it. She feels that there is no need for federal funding which means that many of the poorer schools in the district could suffer because of this.
• Minimum Wage Laws – Campbell is against many of the wage increases that would be in line with the minimum wage. Many minimum wage workers in the country are finding it difficult to make ends meet which is why Doggett is for changes in this area. This could be one of the issues that sway the voters one way or another within the candidates.
• Abortion – This is always a hotly debated topic and on either side of the topic are Doggett who is for and Campbell who is against even for those who have been raped or who have incest issues. Many voters feel strongly on both sides and this can be the one topic that sets the tone for the election.
While there are many other issues and elections for voter this year, this election proves to the most looked at. While many think Doggett is a shoe in to win, there are those who are not so sure. It is just important for the public to get out there and let their voices be heard by voting.
