I have struggled with weight my entire adult life. I have tried many diets, all with varying degrees of successes and failures. Tipping the scales at 300lbs, I wondered about Weight Watchers but never really believed it would be different from other diets out there. I decided to give it a go. I opted for an at home program rather than joining a group and was told that results would not be as good, but they were wrong.
WEIGHT WATCHERS KIT
When the pack I had ordered, arrived at my home, I was very excited. I opened it up to find a point’s book, a diary and a recipe book. It was then it hit me, the magnitude of what I was about to undertake by myself. After reading the instructions and the guides, I felt much better and I just knew I could do this by myself.
The Weight Watchers point’s book was easy to read and follow and put a clear perspective on everything. Realizing that a candy bar was worth 16 points, I knew my diet had to change, especially as for the first week you are allowed no more than 21 points! I decided that I would have 6 days of the week where I would follow the rules to the letter, and 1 day where I could splurge a little. I ate a lot of grilled Chicken; I cut out red meats almost completely. I stopped drinking soda and drank nothing but water. My fruit and vegetable intake went through the roof. My average day looked something like this.
Breakfast -Half grapefruit, Orange juice
Snack – Other half of Grapefruit, Water
Lunch – Turkey sandwich on wheat, baby carrots, water
Snack – Peanuts, Water
Dinner – Grilled Chicken breast, steamed vegetables and water
I really tried to limit red meats. I ate Chicken, Turkey and Fish almost every meal. On my splurge day I would have a burger. I felt that if I did not do that, I would go crazy. Weight Watchers made it very easy to find foods that you could eat and feel good about. By using the included diary you can also keep track of what you are eating, which is invaluable.
CHANGING MY WAY OF LIFE
I really had never been as motivated to lose weight as much as I was after joining weight watchers. I got started immediately. I took the point book with me, everywhere I went, I would examine foods, and compare brands. I was making a huge effort to change my eating habits; I wanted to hit my point’s goal every single day. Soon, making good choices when it came to food was very easy, and I was eating much healthier.
I had never really exercised much during my adult life. I used to play soccer and rugby as a young lad but as an adult the sports stopped and so the weight started pouring on. I decided that I would do my very best to start exercising again. At first it was hard, harder than I imagined, but then it became much easier. Before I knew it, I was completing 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight training every day, the weight was starting to melt off. In my first week, I lost an incredible 7lbs. Week two and the weight loss doubled to 14lbs.
GOING THE DISTANCE.
Sticking with the Weight Watchers plan was very easy, much easier than I had anticipated. I felt great about what I was doing, I felt great about what I was eating, and receiving compliments on how you look is amazing. In all, I stuck with the Weight Watchers plan for 10 months and I lost an incredible 65lb.
I still to this day have my Weight Watchers point book and if I feel myself slipping I go back to the book, and the diary. I still exercise, I regularly complete my 30 minutes of cardio and 30 Minutes of weight training and I am pleased to say that not only has the weight stayed off, but I am still losing. Weight Watchers is without doubt and amazing tool and diet. When it is coupled with your determination and desire to succeed, the sky is the limit.
