Don’t let the name fool you! Nothing about Mad Dan’s restaurant in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin will anger you. In fact, this beloved eatery will probably make you very happy. Mad Dan’s has been a Twin Lakes staple for many years and just recently moved to an alternate downtown location. But a change of venue does not mean a change of menu and so Mad Dan’s still serves up some of the best grub in the Midwest.
My family and I visited Mad Dan’s for dinner and were not disappointed. As usual, our meal began with a complimentary basket of crunchy garlic chips and a savory Wisconsin cheddar cheese dip. Other scrumptious appetizers include: shrimp cocktail, potato skins, deep fried mushrooms, onion rings and cheddar cheese balls, all priced under $7.00.
I can’t help myself, but I always order the same exact thing when I dine at Mad Dan’s. I simply cannot resist the delicious BBQ pork back ribs smothered in sweet, tangy sauce and priced at $17.95 for a full slab. Others in our group ordered broasted chicken, crab legs, bacon cheeseburgers, BLTs, salmon and steak sandwiches, all reasonably priced under $10.
Mad Dan’s also boasts a fabulous Friday fish fry offering all-u-can-eat fried Blue Gill as well as a combo deal presenting beer battered Haddock, crab styx, and broasted chicken for just $9.95. Friday fish dinners are served with your choice of potato pancakes, homemade macaroni and cheese, fries or au gratin spuds. And Mad Dan’s also features all-u-can-eat crab, shrimp and poor man’s lobster every Thursday and unlimited chicken, ribs, fish and shrimp specials on Wednesdays. Tuesdays are pasta night and Mondays feature delicious broasted pork chops.
Mad Dan’s is also known around Twin Lakes for its country style breakfast menu highlighted by pork chops and eggs, three egg omelets, buttermilk pancakes, Belgium waffles, caramelized French toast and hearty biscuits and gravy. Most breakfast entrees cost under $7.00. They also have a full lunch menu with items like: burgers, wraps, salads, Reubens and much more.
And a children’s menu presents silver dollar and Mickey Mouse pancakes for breakfast and corn dogs, popcorn shrimp, hamburgers, hotdogs, peanut butter and jelly and grilled cheese for lunch and dinner.
