Maggiano’s Little Italy Restaurant is one of those places that you either love or you hate, therefore one just has to go and find out if it is hot or cold on ones list. The restaurant dishes are an array of a mix of Italian-American plates served in a casual and laid back atmosphere and with relatively affordable prices.
Maggiano’s is located at 2019 Post Oak in the Galleria area, and it gets crowded during lunch time due to the many offices around the area and they are open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
To start out with you can order some of their wines such as the Maschio Brut Prosecco from Italy if you like a bubbly wine, it seems though that you can never go wrong with a Prosecco, or try a light bodied red like the Pinot Noir from California or a Merlot.
For their appetizer go with the Barb’s spinach and artichoke al forno which is diced artichoke hearts, spinach, tomatoes and Asiago cheese baked with Alfredo sauce and served with crispy focaccia bread and great for sharing or go with the stuffed mushrooms which come stuffed with spinach and topped with seasoned breadcrumbs, served in a garlic white wine sauce.
For their entrées pick one from the chef’s favorite such as the crab and shrimp cannelloni which comes with roasted red peppers, Asiago cheese sauce and seasoned breadcrumb, or go with the rigatoni D which include herb-roasted chicken, mushrooms and caramelized onions, tossed in a Marsala cream sauce, both are great if you are craving comfort food.
However if you want to try their seconds entrée or the meats and seafood, then go with the grilled salmon which comes with garlic and white wine sauce and is served with sautéed spinach and crispy red potatoes, or the Italian roasted short ribs which come topped with topped with garlic herb cheese, served with seasonal vegetable couscous, or the veal parmesan which are breaded cutlets, baked with Provolone cheese and topped with marinara sauce even though the sauce may be too much making them a little soggy.
But you can make it up with the dessert, again the portions are quite big, so sharing between two is ideal like the Nonna’s toasted pound cake with caramelized bananas, or the homemade profiteroles which are pastry shell filled with vanilla ice cream and topped with hot fudge and fresh whipped cream, but if you have a large party then go with the mini dessert sampler which includes tiramisu, crème brulee, apple crostada, chocolate zuccotto cake and the New York style cheesecake, as a matter of fact you can dine with just dessert and a glass of wine!
