The computer is an important tool in our lives, so we should take care of it just like we should any other member of the family. Maintaining your computers performance is easy. Just follow this simple guide, to keep it in tip, top shape.
Attack of the Dust Bunnies
Dust, it’s everywhere. No matter how much you clean your house there will always be dust. I bet you didn’t know that dust is one of the number one killers when it comes to electronics.Dust is attracted to electronics and it will stick like glue. Once a week take a can of compressed air and blow the dust that has collected out of the vents, do not be afraid to open up the case and do some dusting in there too.
Run a Defrag Tool
Defragging your hard drive will keep it performing well. Defragmenting your hard drive frequently and by frequently, I mean once per week, will increase your computers performance, because looking for the files you request will be that much easier on the hard drive. You can set up your computer to defragment automatically. If you use your computer a lot during the day, set it up so that the defrag runs at 2am in the morning, that way the computer is ready to use when you wake up.
Shutdown – Computers Need Rest Too
How many people out there do not turn their computers off? If this is you, then you need to go to time out. Leaving computers running 24/7 is fine, I do this too, but at least once a week, turn of the computer for 5 minutes, then reboot it. The reasoning behind this is that your RAM can get so clogged up that it will not have any room to function anymore. I guarantee that whatever problems you are having with your computer will be fixed with a simple shutdown, not to mention you will see a considerable increase in performance.
Scan for Viruses
Viruses are everywhere; almost every bit of spam email you get on a daily basis will probably have a virus, a Trojan or will have malware or spyware embedded in it. Scan your computer every day. Set it up so that it will automatically scan at 3am in the morning, that way it will not bother you while you are working. Scanning for viruses is an important part of maintaining your computers performance
These are just a few useful tips to help you keep your computer in tip top shape. They do not take long to do and most can be done automatically while you sleep. Maintain your computer and it’s performance, by following the above, I promise you will see a difference.
