Many apartments, condos, and even some houses have small kitchens. To make the most of the space you do have and to make them appear bigger, there are tricks you can do to make living in a small kitchen easier.
Use a Light Paint Color
Paint the ceiling and walls a light color. Broaden the height of the ceiling by painting it white. Use another light color or white on the walls to open them up. Painting cabinets and shelves white is another trick to open up a small kitchen.
Add a Mirrored Backsplash
Mirrors reflect and make a space look bigger. Glass is easy to wipe down with a glass cleaner and cloth so don’t worry about clean up. A mirrored backsplash offers a way to expand your small kitchen.
Make sure you are using all of the vertical space possible by adding shelves or cabinets that take advantage of the vertical space.
Use Furniture to Scale
Make sure if you have room for a table and chairs or just stools at a bar that the furniture is the right scale to fit the room. Small kitchens usually can’t handle a huge china hutch or a large table and chairs without feeling crowded.
Clear the Counters
A small kitchen feels closed in and even smaller when the cabinets are loaded with electronic appliances and canisters and just stuff. Try to find a home for most everything to allow the countertops to appear spacious and plentiful.
