Don’t buy overpriced commercial foaming hand soaps. I can show you how to make your own and reuse the foaming dispenser you already have.
– 1 empty foaming soap dispenser
(you can reuse any container that previously had foaming soap in it)
– Plain tap water
– Your favorite liquid hand soap
If you are using a used soap dispenser you should first wash the dispenser. Cleaning the soap dispenser helps to prevent clogs that build up over time. Unscrew the top of the soap dispenser and fill it half way with hot water. Replace the top and shake vigorously a few times. Press the pump a few times to push some of the hot water out to clean the mechanism inside.
After you are finished unscrew the top again. Fill the dispenser halfway with liquid soap. Fill the rest of the dispenser with plain water. Lightly shake the pump a few times to incorporate the water with the soap. It usually takes 2-3 pumps to get the soap foaming at first. If after 2-3 pumps and you still aren’t getting foamy soap coming out of your dispenser you might need to shake the bottle a few more times. You could also try adding a little more soap to your ratio of soap and water mixture, this often helps the soap to foam up well.
Soap Doesn’t Have To Be Antibacterial
Recent studies have shown that it isn’t necessary to use antibacterial soap or hand sanitizer when washing your hands. It’s more important to make sure you wash your hands long enough and with the hottest water you can tolerate. If you want an antibacterial agent, use can replace antibacterial soap instead of plain hand soap in the recipe above.
Where To Buy Your Own Foaming Dispensers
Bottles and Foamers Co. has a wide selection of new foaming soap bottles. They also offer wall mountable and refillable foaming dispensers similar to the soap dispensers you see in public bathrooms.
I prefer foaming hand soap to a regular soap dispenser because it covers the hands more throughly. Foaming hand soap is great for kids because it’s easier for them to get a good lather when washing their hands to ensure proper washing.
