We have been living in our manufactured home for over two years and we are very comfortable with our choice. The cost was comparable to an on-site built home, possibly a little cheaper. We needed to move from a large two story farmhouse into something smaller, easy to maintain and all on one floor. We also wanted a home that was completely finished and “key” ready.
Since we live in an area that is often referred to as tornado alley, we also needed a basement. We visited a nearby company that sells manufactured homes and we toured several manufactured homes in our area to get an idea of the quality of the homes regarding, style, windows, siding, roofing and interior finishes.
With research we found the quality about the same with the various manufactures and prices were comparable. Manufactured home can be constructed in a variety of sizes and floor plans including multi-story houses. Interiors are designed from basic to ultra modern features. We selected Homes by iBS, a division of Indiana Building Systems, LLC to build our house and we hired a local contractor to prepare our basement and foundation.
After touring several of their model homes we selected the style and size home we wanted. We also chose the style and color of kitchen cabinets, counter tops and appliances. We have a whirlpool spa in a large master bathroom and a tub/shower combination for the second bathroom. We chose carpeting, hardwood floors, windows, patio doors and a fancy triple-glass-door combination for the front of the house.
We have a small, comfortable house, with three bedrooms and two full baths. Our beautiful home has a master bedroom large enough for king size bed, bed-side tables and vanity. The second bedroom accommodates a queen size bed and vanity. The third bedroom is smaller and is perfect for a nursery, child’s room or office. Each bedroom has a closet and there is one large walk-in closet, two pantries and a main floor laundry room. With the basement we have adequate storage and plenty of room for a family room, kitchenette, bathroom, weight room and storage.
Our house was built in a totally controlled atmosphere at the manufacturing plant. We started the basement and foundation as soon as we ordered the house. Within a month the house was built and ready to set onto the foundation. The house arrived in perfect condition and was placed on the foundation with a large crane. The heating and cooling systems were included and installed by the company.
Our beautiful home is total electric and very energy efficient which keeps the utility bills affordable. We added a front porch and two decks, patio and detached garage. If you are searching for an affordable, comfortable home that is ready to move quickly I recommend a manufactured home.
After living here for over two years and with the weather extremes we have in our area we are very satisfied with our manufactured home and our utility bills. We have not had any problems with our house. We do not have any cracks, or other interior problems. The doors and windows are tight and energy efficient. We opted for brick siding which may have added extra insulation against the weather.
