I have about 12 of those damn car freshener scented trees in my car. I don’t bother to take the old ones out, just plop another one on the rear-view mirror to keep that vanilla scent rolling. However, if you are a person who typically tosses their old car freshener scented trees, or if you have too many to use all at once, why not get a bit creative with them and find some other uses in your house?
You can boil a car freshener scented tree in 2 cups of water for an instant fix to pet odors or when you have company coming over. It works as potpourri in a pinch. I just don’t recommend using the pine-scented ones, or the ones that have that new-car smell for use as potpourri as they are too strong. Use the vanilla or mango ones instead.
Cut a car freshener down to fit inside the toilet paper roll holder. Every time you roll out a few sheets of paper, the motion will activate the freshener so you get a nice fresh scent to cover bathroom odors.
Take older car freshener trees that still have a bit of scent and use them in cabinets and drawers and other small spaces that would be overpowered by a stronger scent. Put one in your entertainment center, dresser drawers, in the closet, etc to keep items and areas from smelling stale.
If leaving your home for a few days or weeks, come home to a clean-smelling home by hanging a few trees in separate areas of the house from the ceiling. Just make sure they are the same scent to avoid overpowering the house, and keep it light, like with vanilla. You will come home to a lovely smelling house!
My grandma used to hang a car freshener tree from her ceiling fan and turn it on low to let the scent waft through the house. A cute easy idea.
Hang a car freshener tree near your cat’s litter box to help eradicate odors. Lavender and vanilla work best, as the mango and other fruity ones don’t really compliment cat odor smells.
Place a car freshener tree under the sinks in your house to help drown out that moldy wet smell that is always prevalent. It has a slight scent that wafts out and smells better when you have to get under the sink for cleaning supplies.
Just a few fun ideas to use all those car freshener trees for!
