While shopping for quick lunch items last week, I stumbled upon Marie Callender’s Tortellini Romano. I absolutely love Italian food, especially when it contains cheese filled pasta and red sauce. I was a bit concerned that it was topped with basil, as I’m not a fan of basil, but at $1.88, I decided to give it a try. Would Marie Callender’s Tortellini Romano be a home run or would the basil be too much for me to bare?
First of all, this meal is from Marie Callender’s Al Dente line. The meal steams in the microwave and I was also concerned about this. I’ve purchased steam meals from the dry goods section and thought they were too much trouble. This meal, on the other hand, couldn’t have been easier to prepare. You take it out of the box, place it in the microwave, cook for around 4 minutes, dump the pasta into the bottom bowl, stir and serve. So simple.
I was a bit disappointed when I first saw the size of the portion. It looked a bit small, but about half way through the meal, I was starting to feel full. For supper, I would suggest adding a small side salad and garlic bread to complete the meal.
The taste of this meal was wonderful. The pasta sauce tasted fresh, the basil wasn’t overbearing and the tortellini was perfect. I added Parmesan cheese to the meal and it made it even better.

Unfortunately, the only health value this meal has going for it is a good amount of fiber and protein.
I would rate Marie Callender’s Tortellini Romano 5 out of 5 stars. I thought it was absolutely delicious. The meal is also easy to prepare and perfect for work. I highly recommend trying this meal. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. If red sauce isn’t your cup of tea though, there are several other flavors to choose from.
