I have a daddy. He loves me. We play a lot together and do fun things like eat ice cream and go to the park. Sometimes he reads to me. I used to have a Mommie. I don’t have one now because she went to heaven last year. Daddy says she’s an angel now. I bet she is really pretty with her wings.
My daddy is sad now. I am sad too, but not like my daddy. Me and daddy want mommie back again, but daddy says she won’t come back. Sometimes my daddy cries a little bit when he tells me. Sometimes, I cry too.
I don’t really know what people do in heaven. My daddy says they sing and and dance and fly around a lot. That sounds fun. I think mommie is having fun.
Tommorrow, I am going to school. I am four years old. Daddy calls it day care, but I saw a sign there and Daddy told me it said, “Thompson Early Learning School.” I have to go to school now because daddy has to go to work now. Daddy has an office in our house and he works there too. I could sit in his lap and draw pictures sometimes when he was working. He says I can’t draw pictures like that at his new work.
Daddy brushed my teeth and I put on my pajamas myself tonight and he read me a story. After my story, I told daddy I was scared a little. I told him I wanted him to stay with me for the first day and then I could do it like a big girl. He said he can’t stay, but I will have a good time. He was sad about that and I was sad too. I don’t want my daddy to be sad so I will be a really big girl tomorrow for my daddy. I will take Tiggle, my best friend, and he will help me. Mommie tied a blue ribbon on his neck a long time ago. I like the ribbon. Goodnight.
It’s morning and we are at the school. I can unbuckle my seat by myself and jump out of the car without any help. Daddy holds my hand and we go into my school. A lady says, “How are you young lady, my name is Miss Karen.” I look at her and squeeze my daddy’s hand tight. I don’t let go of Tiggle. Tiggle is scared so hold him tight too.
We go to my class and I see four children like me in there. I don’t want daddy to go so I ask him to draw me two clocks so I can watch the big clock and see when it is getting close to daddy coming…”Daddy, don’t go!” I run to my daddy and he picks me up and holds me and tells he loves me. I tell him Tiggle will help me be a big girl for him. He puts me down and blows kisses and walks out the door. I say, “Miss Karen, can I watch my daddy leave today?” Miss Karen smiles and walks with me to the door. I wave at my daddy. He doesn’t see me. It’s ok. My daddy loves me.
I look at the clock again. It is almost time for my daddy to come and I am almost finished with my surprise for him.
“Marissa” he calls sweetly. Marissa turns and smiled. “How was your day, sweetie?”
I missed my daddy. “Daddy, come look at what I made!” He walks over and picks me up and kisses me on the cheek. “Tiggle wants a kiss too. She’s been good like me.” Miss Karen gives Tiggle to my daddy and he kisses Tiggle. “Look at what I made. I made a building like you do. You went to work so I went to work here. I’m gonna be just like you, daddy.” Daddy puts me down and smiles. “Daddy, I don’t like these.” I get a napkin from my pocket and show him green peas. “He laughs and says, “You don’t have to eat them, sweetie. What else did you have for lunch?” I told daddy about the hot dog and the apple sauce and the corn. “Can we go home now, daddy?” Miss Karen shows daddy a camera and says, “if you want to take a picture of Marissa and her building project, I can email it to you. Maybe one day, you and Marissa can do some building together.” Daddy takes the camera and smiles, “Yes Miss Karen, I think we will do some building together. I think we will start today. Smile, Marissa.”
