On a recent grocery shopping trip at my local Target store, I picked up a few of their name brand “Market Pantry” products. One of these was a box of Market Pantry Sweet & Salty Chewy Granola Bars, which looked and sounded a lot like the same type of food product made by Nature Valley, only the Market Pantry brand was about $1.50 cheaper.
The 7.4 ounce box contains six chewy granola bars, each individually wrapped. There is a tear strip along the top, then a tab slips into a slot, much like on a cereal box, to keep the opening of the box top closed. On the surface, the Market Pantry Sweet & Salty Chewy Granola Bars look just a tad bit smaller than the Nature Valley brand. They come wrapped in a shiny plastic sleeve, and the outside reads “Dipped in peanut butter coating”.
Each Market Pantry Sweet & Salty Chewy Granola Bars weighs 1.2 ounces. They measure 3 5/8 in length and are about one half inch thick. These look like a typical granola bar with a lot of oats mixed in, but the difference here is they also have a lot of peanuts as well. The peanut butter coating covers the entire bottom of the granola bar, and even goes half way up the side.
Looking at the ingredients, the first one listed is peanuts. The comes yogurt flavored coating – but this coating does not taste like yogurt, or like the coating that is on yogurt covered pretzels or nuts, it tastes like a peanut butter glaze. Just as the name implies, the texture of these Market Pantry Sweet & Salty Chewy Granola Bars is indeed very chewy, and very satisfying. The love chewy, sweet snacks, and these really hit the spot when I am looking for something sweet.
They really don’t fit well into my diet plans, because one small bar contains 170 calories and 8 grams of fat. Three grams is saturated fat, but at least there are none of those unhealthy trans fats here. The upside is that these do provide at least some amount of protein, 4 grams to be exact, so I feel they are a healthier snacking choice than consuming a candy bar that is full of empty calories.
One bar provides 2% of your daily calcium as well as 2% of your daily iron. I find the peanuts really help fill me up and give me a small boost of energy when I get that afternoon slump around 3:00 pm. They are great for packing in a golf bag or backpack, or just keeping in the car glove box for those unexpected times.
Market Pantry promises “Freshness and quality always at a great value,” and they stand behind that promise with a 100% guarantee. I have had some issues with Market Pantry products on occasion, and they have always responded quickly and to my satisfaction. I’d say you have nothing to lose by giving their Market Pantry Sweet & Salty Chewy Granola Bars a try.
